We were delighted to be asked to present Barbara Hulanicki with a specially designed necklace. The film premiere of Beyond BIBA was launched at one of Londons finest buildings,kensington Roof Top Gardens.

Barbara Hulanicki will always be remembered for BIBA, the shop that changed the face of UK fashion in the 1960s and 70s. A phenomenon in the truest sense of the word, BIBA would leave an indelible mark on the minds and wardrobes of the customers who ventured through its doors. Following its closure in 1975, many have attempted to reproduce the magic. All have missed the key ingredient: the involvement of its creator,Barbara Hulanicki.

Born in Warsaw, she moved to Palestine as a young girl, where she lived a privileged, innocent existence as a diplomat!s daughter. This idyll was cut short by the assassination of her father by the Stern Gang in 1948. Barbara and her family immediately left for England. She began to establish herself in the fashion industry, first as a commercial illustrator; later as a designer.

Upon meeting her future husband, Fitz, the BIBA brand was born. The store evolved from shop to shop, getting bigger and bigger, eventually climaxing in the gigantic 5-storey Art Deco department store on Kensington High Street. After the store collapsed, following a torturous legal battle with their former business partners, Barbara continued working in fashion, designing for Fiorucci and Cacharel. In 1987 Hulanicki entered a new phase of her career, reinventing herself as an interior designer in Miami. Hulanicki was at the forefront of the phenomenal regeneration of South Beach, from derelict no-go zone, to glamorous abode for the rich and famous, collaborating with Island Records founder Chris Blackwell on many high profile projects.

Still a Miami resident, Barbara Hulanicki is now respected around the world as a major figure in design.
